Alexandra & District Speedway Secures $250,000 Lighting Upgrade
A major investment in lighting will unlock safer night racing, expanded events and stronger community access at one of Murrindindi Shire’s key sporting venues.
Alexandra & District Speedway has long been a cornerstone of sport and community life in Victoria’s Murrindindi Shire, bringing together participants, volunteers and spectators from across the region.
As participation and event demand has grown, the limitations of the existing lighting system have become increasingly apparent, restricting evening use and reducing flexibility for events and training.
Addressing critical infrastructure needs
Through the Sport and Recreation Victoria Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, the Speedway has secured $250,000 to deliver a major lighting upgrade across the racetrack.
The project includes a modern LED lighting system, new poles, upgraded electrical infrastructure and improved coverage across both the track and surrounding areas.
Unlocking community and event opportunities
The upgraded lighting will create a safer, more reliable and energy-efficient facility, enabling consistent year-round use and the ability to host more frequent events.
Beyond race days, the improved infrastructure will support junior development, increase participation opportunities and strengthen the venue’s role as a multi-use community asset.
Unlocking more events and safer operations
For the club, the new lighting will unlock the ability to host more frequent events, expand training opportunities and improve safety for drivers, officials and volunteers.
It also creates opportunities to attract larger regional and state-level events, strengthening the Speedway’s role within the broader motorsport landscape.
A stronger asset for the whole community
For the wider community, the benefits extend well beyond race days. Improved lighting will enable greater access to the facility, supporting junior development, beginner participation and more inclusive opportunities.
The venue will also continue to support local schools and emergency services for training and education, reinforcing its role as a true multi-use community asset.
Looking Ahead
Investing in infrastructure that lasts
By investing in this lighting upgrade, Alexandra & District Speedway is ensuring the venue remains safe, inclusive and capable of supporting growing demand well into the future.
